To Whom It May Concern:
RECOMMENDATION FOR HILDA BOATENG
It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Hilda. I have been her Guidance Counselor for over seven years and her Senior Seminar teacher this year. When I consider Hilda, I immediately think of the difficult journey this tough young lady has already traveled.
Hilda was born to Ghanaian parents who came to this country in her early years. Though trying to go through proper channels for citizenship, Hilda’s mother was deported from the country in 2014. Her mother had been the primary caretaker of she and her siblings, since her father, a trucker by profession was infrequently at home. Upon her mother’s deportation, much responsibility was thrust upon Hilda. She assumed this burden while also grieving the physical loss of her mother’s presence.
When her mom was being held in a Detention Center before deportation, Hilda sought out help from anyone and everyone including community activists and state representatives to assist. She did not let her mom quietly go but fought hard to keep her here with her family in the United States. Once her mom was back in Ghana, Hilda could have been resentful and angry at the world but she was not. I have watched her lament what should have been but I have also seen Hilda accept her circumstances with a grace and dignity that is beyond extraordinary.
These events have had an impact on Hilda’s learning. She had always had little support at home whether due to the language differences or the absence of help. Hilda understood that she had to seek out support when she struggled. I have observed her for years seeking out her teachers for extra help and guidance. It is an endearing quality about Hilda. Her desire to learn and receive help makes her a very teachable student. So while her grades have not been outstanding, she has had to work hard to overcome many obstacles.
I would recommend Hilda for your consideration. She advocates well for herself and is very teachable. These qualities combined with her positive attitude and resiliency will enable her to successfully continue on her life journey. If you would like to further discuss Hilda’s recommendation, please contact me.

To Whom It May Concern,
I am privileged to submit this letter of recommendation in support of a very determined
and focused student, Hilda Boateng. Over the last three years, I have had the pleasure
of mentoring and coaching her as the Varsity Cheer Coach. During this time, I have
witnessed a great transformation in Hilda’s confidence, determination and focus. Hilda
has become a positive role model and leader among her peers.
Hilda has held several key positions within various organizations throughout her high
school career such as: JV and Varsity cheerleading, school plays, school talent shows,
speech meets. Hilda is currently the vice-president of ICU (International Cultural
United Organization) and she has volunteered several hours of her time to The Ronald
McDonald House as well as various fundraising events for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Hilda’s involvement in these various leadership roles has given her a great opportunity
to develop and display her ability to lead and inspire others.
I believe that Hilda would be a great asset to any college or university. She has a
tremendous drive and determination which will be a great foundation for her college
career. Hilda is a student who combines exceptional natural ability with a willingness to
mentor her peers and encourage them to strive for excellence while maintaining a sense
of humility that keeps her grounded in her faith.
Without hesitation, I fully recommend Hilda Boateng as a candidate for admission to
your institution of higher learning. Should you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me.
Sincerely,
Stacey Johnson
